Marguerite MacLean | Live at Barnaby’s Lounge Keyboard • Vocals • Timeless Songs Join us at Barnaby’s Lounge for an afternoon/evening of live music with Marguerite MacLean, an experienced keyboard player, vocalist, composer and entertainer whose musical life has taken her from the UK to Singapore, Africa and beyond. Marguerite brings an wonderfully broad repertoire, travelling through the decades from the 1950s to today. You have the opportunity of responding with your own images and/or writing, while you are transported into visions, emotions and thoughts, all within the lovely gallery setting of Barnaby's Lounge with other curious creatives. Markus & Tessa Thonett & Guests – Art Exhibition Barnaby’s Lounge is delighted to welcome Markus & Tessa Thonett and guests as part of the Coastal Currents 2026 arts festival. Running from 30 August to 4 October, this exhibition brings together the distinctive work of two talented artists. Markus Thonett, originally from Germany and now an Irish citizen, creates intricate artworks using his unique Card Cuts technique, carefully working with scalpel and mounting board to create pieces inspired by local and wider subjects. He will also be presenting his ‘Greenish Paintings’, created on repurposed plywood with a focus on reducing environmental impact. Tessa Thonett is a portrait painter whose work combines oils, palette knives and brushes. Join us at Barnaby’s Lounge for the first in our new monthly film screenings, taking place on the second Monday of every month. For our opening evening, Silence is Golden: 1895–1910, host Mark Poole takes us right back to the birth of cinema with a specially selected collection of short films from its extraordinary first fifteen years. Mark will introduce each film, offering context and stories from the earliest days of filmmaking, followed by an opportunity for questions and conversation. Hyphae Collective invite poets, musicians and singers to experiment and collaborate with our house band – let’s see what mycelial magic we can weave together. Bring your instruments and your words; whether they be your own, someone else’s or, even better, improvised! September's Hyphae jam is a Hastings Book Festival special - bring along some prose and see if you can render it poetic with our band!  It could be your own writing, or anything from your favourite (or least favourite) classic novel to your washing machine manual. The stranger the better!  (Poetry and improvising is still welcome, we couldn't quite bring ourselves to make prose compulsory... Will you take up the challenge?) The vibe: The Hyphae jam is a place where those who tell stories with words or stories with sound get to play together. A place where we descend into a hell poem loop that is exited via a performance of the J’Adore Dior advert (2004). A place where the soundtrack is constantly reinvented and always slaps. Local favourites Saints-On-Sea return to Barnaby’s in a duo line-up. Based in St Leonards-on-Sea, the group are known for putting their own beautifully arranged spin on familiar pop, folk and indie songs, with warm harmonies and an intimate acoustic sound. Expect a stripped-back performance full of character, harmony and songs you’ll recognise, but perhaps not quite as you’ve heard them before. A proper dose of old-school rhythm & blues, classic soul and good-time live music comes to Barnaby’s with the Paul Huggett Band. Paul Huggett has been part of the Hastings music scene for many years, performing and singing both with bands and as a solo artist, as well as writing his own material. He’s also a familiar voice on Hastings Rock, where his radio career began after lockdown and has since grown to hundreds of shows. But this is Paul away from the radio desk and back where he belongs, in front of a live audience. The Paul Huggett Band mixes old-school R&B, classic soul, upbeat originals and a few carefully chosen surprises, with an easy-going, energetic approach designed for a room full of people rather than a room full of algorithms. Barnaby’s previous shows with the band have described exactly that combination of rhythm & blues, soul and original material. Expect familiar grooves, strong vocals, plenty of character and the sort of music that makes sitting perfectly still increasingly difficult.
