Devon born musician Fliss Gorst graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire and has spent the past 14 years living in London. She enjoys life as a saxophonist, band leader, composer and teacher. Fliss leads her own band, swing outfit 'The Fliss Gorst Band’ who perform original compositions as well as new takes on old classics. The band held a residency at Poppies of Camden from 2013-2020. They've hosted many nights Upstairs @ Ronnie Scott's, as well as downstairs on the main stage at this prestigious jazz venue. Fliss is proud to be a Vandoren Artist and is greatly inspired by tenor sax greats Ben Webster, Lester Young, Dexter Gordon and Stan Getz. For this gig, (her first in Hastings) Fliss is delighted to be joined by Olie Brice on double bass and John Donaldson on keyboard. They’ll be performing a selection of Fliss’ tunes mixed in with some well known classic standards

Internationally Renowned Irish jazz guitarist Hugh Buckley and London based rising up and comer Tom Remon join forces to embark on a run of gigs across the UK and Ireland playing a range of repertoire from original compositions and jazz standards Hugh Buckley is a Dublin born and based, self-taught guitarist, composer, arranger, educator and author. He has performed throughout Europe, the USA, Argentina and China, working as a sideman and also leading his own groups. He has performed with a wide array of internationally acclaimed artists including: James Williams, Peter Bernstein, Sheryl Bailey, Jim Mullen, John Stowell, Georgie Fame, Guy Barker, Lisa Stansfield, Ronnie Drew and Van Morrison. Tom Remon is a guitarist from London England who has started out in the artist development organisation Tomorrows Warriors, Tom then went on to record his debut album with Jazz Guitar legend Jim Mullen and has performed with some of the leading names in UK jazz including David Lyttle, Soweto Kinch, Neil Yates, Benet McLean, Steve Williamson, and American Jazz guitarists Sid Jacobs and John Stowell. Hyphae Collective warmly invite poets, musicians and singers to experiment and collaborate with our house band - let's see what magic we can weave together. Bring your instruments and your words; whether they be your own, someone else's or, even better, improvised! The jam is on the third Thursday of each month at 7pm, at Barnaby's Jazz Bar in Hastings. It's free and unticketed (though tips are welcomed). The building is wheelchair accessible, but the toilets are not. This is a queer and trans friendly event - everyone is welcome.
