Hastings Jazz Festival Presents Soweto Kinch Trio: “Soundtrack to the Apocalypse” | Henry Ward Hall | 7:30pm
Mercury Prize-nominated and BBC Jazz Award-winning saxophonist, MC and producer Soweto Kinch brings his trio to Hastings Jazz Festival for a rare appearance and the premiere of his new project, Soundtrack to the Apocalypse — a high-energy collision of jazz improvisation, beat-driven hip hop and razor-sharp social commentary.
An Urban Music and MOBO Award winner, Kinch is one of the UK’s most influential contemporary jazz figures, with headline performances at the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, Southbank Centre, London Jazz Festival, BBC Proms, and major festivals across Europe, Africa and the US — alongside collaborations with Courtney Pine and other leading international artists.
He’s joined by bassist Joshua Vadiveloo, one of the most exciting young players on the UK scene, and drummer Louis Hamilton-Foad, an in-demand London musician working across jazz, hip hop and contemporary groove projects.
Inspired by everything from AI and global conflict to climate upheaval, the music shifts between reflective ballads and explosive rhythmic episodes. Drawing on the original Greek meaning of “apocalypse” as an unveiling, Kinch imagines how a shift in global consciousness might sound — urgent, danceable and defiantly hopeful. A rare chance to hear one of the UK’s most influential contemporary artists in an intimate trio setting.
