A true pioneer of UK Afrobeat, Bukky Leo brings his powerful Black Egypt project to Hastings Jazz Festival for a night of deep grooves, spiritual jazz, and high-energy Afrobeat. Bukky began his career with Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80, performing alongside the father of Afrobeat before becoming one of the genre’s leading voices in the UK. His music blends driving rhythms, hypnotic horn lines, and improvisation rooted in jazz, soul, and West African tradition.

Black Egypt features top-tier London musicians and has appeared at major festivals and venues across Europe, known for electrifying live shows that move effortlessly between Afrobeat, jazz-fusion, and cosmic, spiritual textures. Expect a powerful, uplifting performance full of rhythm, movement, and deep musical heritage.
