Robert Reid Jazz Trio ~ 1.30pm
There’s a certain kind of jazz that doesn’t need to shout to hold a room.
The Robert Reid Jazz Trio brings exactly that spirit to Barnaby’s Lounge. Elegant, melodic and deeply rooted in the traditions of classic jazz piano, Robert’s playing draws inspiration from some of the great masters of the genre, blending sophistication, warmth and effortless swing. After originally studying classical piano, Robert’s musical direction changed when he discovered the brilliance of jazz legends such as Fats Waller, Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson. Over the years, Robert has performed extensively throughout London and the South East, appearing in jazz clubs, festivals, private events and concert venues. Alongside members of his various ensembles, he has shared stages and bills with respected names including Humphrey Lyttelton, Scott Hamilton, Jacqui Dankworth, Jamie Cullum, Lianne Carroll, Acker Bilk, Derek Nash and John Etheridge. On bass – Danny Moss Jnr – internationally renowned, celebrated for his Ray Brown‑inspired time, tone and swing. He has performed and recorded with major jazz figures including Danny Moss MBE, Jeannie Lambe, Sir John Dankworth, Don Burrows, John Critchinson, Martin Drew, Scott Hamilton, Tony Coe, and Simon Spillett.
He has toured extensively across Europe’s major jazz festivals — including Brecon, Edinburgh, Berlin, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Galway, Bridgnorth, Corsham, Foehr, and many more.
Danny was also a member of Hank Marvin’s Quartet for over three years, touring widely and performing Django‑inspired repertoire. His propulsive bass lines earned him the nickname “The Pathfinder” from pianist John Critchinson for his driving, harmonically sympathetic playing.
Tony MacDonnell of Tubby Hayes and John Dankworth fame will be on drums
Expect an afternoon of beautifully interpreted standards from the Great American Songbook, alongside touches of Latin jazz, blues, gospel influences and elegant improvisation. The trio’s music moves naturally between relaxed Sunday listening and moments of sparkling musical conversation, creating the perfect atmosphere for a long lunch, a glass of wine and great company.
