Wednesday 4 November 2026 | 7pm

Celebrate the writers and poets bringing fresh voices to the page at the Hastings Book Festival 2026 Presentation Evening, hosted at Barnaby’s Lounge.

After receiving hundreds of entries across its short story, poetry and creative non-fiction competitions, the festival will reveal this year’s winners and celebrate the shortlisted writers. Creative non-fiction judge Sam Davey and short story judge Robin Pridy will announce their selections, while acclaimed poet and festival director Henry Normal will present the poetry awards on behalf of judge John McCullough, who is unable to attend.

The evening will include the presentation of trophies and prizes, including two Sussex Prizes recognising a poetry writer and a short story writer from the county. Each winner will receive an independent two-night writing retreat sponsored by Starcroft Farm Cabins. Winners may also have the opportunity to read from their work.

Whether you write, read, support local creativity or simply enjoy an evening celebrating words and ideas, everyone is welcome. Bring friends and family and join the festival community for a special celebration of literary talent.
